Juvenile Code of Justice

Morristown Juvenile Code of Justice Lawyer

New Jersey Juvenile Detention Attorney

The New Jersey Code of Juvenile Justice (N.J.S.A. Title 2A Chapter 4) is a special statute that provides the regulatory framework for handling juvenile court proceedings. It offers certain protections to mitigate the consequences for crimes that may be punished with jail or prison sentences in adult court.

At James M. Porfido, Attorney at Law, our attorneys have more than 20 years of experience handling cases in the juvenile court system, particularly in Morris County, New Jersey. We are very experienced and familiar with the Juvenile Code of Justice. We understand the protections it offers juveniles, and we use this knowledge to help ensure the juvenile is treated fairly and appropriately in accordance with the law.

Juvenile Defense

The New Jersey Code of Juvenile Justice handles procedures for:

  • Record keeping and confidentiality of records
  • Process for being charged as a juvenile and receiving a complaint
  • Sentencing
  • Analyzing mitigating and aggravating circumstances in a juvenile case
  • Other juvenile court procedures

When we take on a juvenile law case, we carefully evaluate police procedures leading up to and after the underage drinking, theft, criminal mischief or other criminal charge. Failure to comply with the regulations as outlined by the Code of Juvenile Justice is a violation of client rights and serious cause for concern. We are committed to making sure this does not happen.
