Man Faces Weapons Charges for Assaulting His Brother over Pepsi

Family arguments are nothing new, but when those arguments turn into more than just a verbal altercation, injuries can occur. For one family in New Jersey, drinking alcohol during the NFC Championship game led to one brother being assaulted by another brother over a can of Pepsi.

Police arrived at the brothers’ apartment at 10:46 p.m. on the night of the altercation. The report stated the apartment was covered in blood. One of the brothers was found in the apartment with an injury to his head and several wounds to his chest and upper body. The other brother, who faces weapons charges, wasn’t anywhere to be found.

The victim in the stabbing claims his brother was upset because San Francisco was losing the football game. The victim went to get a Pepsi and his brother got upset because it was the last can of Pepsi. After words were exchanged the alleged assailant grabbed a pipe and hit his brother. The assailant then began stabbing the victim. The victim claims he grabbed a knife and stabbed his brother in the arm.

Paramedics treated the man at the scene and he was taken to Jersey City Medical Center.

The victim in this case opted not to pursue a temporary restraining order against his brother, but police have still pressed charges against the still-missing man. The man is facing charges of unlawful possession of a weapon, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. Anyone who has been charged with crimes because of an altercation with a family member must answer to those charges. Learning about the charges and the consequences of those charges can help the alleged assailant determine the best way to respond to the charges.
