New Jersey Man Arrested for Carrying Assault Rifle and Other Weapons

A man is being held in a New Jersey county jail on a hefty bond for weapon charges. Police stopped the man for speeding – he was doing 26 miles over the speed limit. When the officers approached his vehicle after stopping him, they allegedly smelled marijuana and saw open containers of alcohol. The police department said that the man consented to a search of his vehicle.

The police found several guns in the vehicle, including an assault rifle and a .22-caliber scoped rifle. They also found an illegal knife, 20 armor-piercing rounds and a BB gun that was loaded. The man was allegedly intoxicated or on drugs when police pulled him over at 9:20 in the morning. Police also found marijuana, cocaine, drug paraphernalia, Ecstasy and prescription pills in the search of his Toyota Tundra.

The man was charged with several counts of weapons charges and drug charges, including having open alcohol containers in the vehicle and driving while intoxicated. The weapon charges include two counts of possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, three counts of unlawful possession of a weapon, one count of possession of armor penetrating bullets, one count of illegal transportation of weapons and one count of unlawful possession of a knife.

He was also charged with speeding, several motor vehicle violations and seven drug charges. His bond for all charges is set at $187,500. It is unknown at this time if the man has contacted a criminal attorney who can protect his rights or mitigate possible penalties, or if he bonded out.
